Operating systems are a foundational component of datacenters. They better enable businesses worldwide to compete in the digital economy. The role of the operating system has evolved over time from existing strictly in on-premises datacenters to including a variety of use cases including cloud and edge deployments that align with shifts in end-user workload preferences. Over the past several years, operating systems have become increasingly flexible in unifying these different types of environments while delivering a reliable user experience. This, as a result, has allowed customers to not only streamline workloads and take advantage of cloud-based efficiencies within their datacenters (thus reducing costs and shifting them toward a more predictable opex model) but also grow their overall computing capabilities by leveraging hybrid and multicloud strategies.
