Microsoft 365 backup has come a long way in the last four to five years. In a survey taken between 2017 and 2019, we found that the majority of people said they relied on Microsoft’s native tools. Only a small percentage of people said they did not back up Microsoft 365 data.
By 2019, however, this flip-flopped. The amount of respondents that said they relied on Microsoft 365’s tools was down to just 20%, and the amount of people who said they did not back up Microsoft 365 skyrocketed to 47%.
This shift can be explained by organizations previously thinking that Microsoft tools protected their data, but realizing later on that native capabilities did not equate to a backup solution. They now acknowledge there is a gap in protection, and they are adopting third party backup solutions to fulfill this need.
